Lisianthus
Lisianther, ‘Lissi’, Texas Blue-Bell, Gentian, or the scientific Eustoma – this gorgeous flower goes by many names. The Lisianther grows on a thin stem, that is cut anywhere from 20 to 60 centimetres tall. Each stem has pointed soft green leaves, around five small lime-green buds, and one or two open flowers. The Lisianther flower has many soft petals that curl delicately around each other, similar in size and look to an open poppy or rose. Lisianthers are available in various pastel shades, with the most popular colours being white, cream, pale pink and glowing purple.
Lisianthers are available all year around, although they are at their best and most plentiful in late Spring/Summer, as many flowers are. They are native to the warmer areas of South America, although since the 80s they have been cultivated in glasshouses across the world. Many people love the Lisianther, although not many know its name – it is a very popular flower to use in wedding bouquets, or to give as a sweet gift to women of any age.
